I am a PhD in Economics candidate at the University of Cape Town, under the African Economic Research Consortium Collaborative PhD Programme. I hold an MSc. Economics and BSc. Economics from the University of Zimbabwe. My research interests include international trade, development economics, and labor markets. I am also a Research Associate in Policy Research in International Services and Manufacturing (PRISM) within the School of Economics at the University of Cape Town. My PhD thesis focuses on import penetration and labour market adjustments.
When I am not working on my PhD thesis, I enjoy teaching and sharing my theoretical and technical skills in Econometrics, Macroeconomics, and Microeconomics with postgraduate students at the School of Economics, UCT. I am passionate about policies that can foster Africa's development, which I enjoy discussing with my fellow members of the ECA Young Economists Network, Econometric Society, and Zimbabwe Economics Society. Before joining the University of Cape Town, I was a Teaching Assistant at the University of Zimbabwe.
I believe that human capital development is crucial for a country’s economic development and breaking the vicious cycle of poverty. I am fortunate to have benefited from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarship and the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) scholarship in my academic journey. To this end, I am proud to have been awarded several prizes/ awards, including the University of Zimbabwe book prize for being the top graduate in 2017.
During my free time, I enjoy hiking and travelling. I look forward to joining the job market space in 2026. You can find my CV here.
